When Your Migraines Can Trace Back to Your Teeth

Migraine headaches are awful. They can leave you in misery, and make it to where you struggle to function. There can be a lot of different causes for migraines, such as foods, caffeine, spending too much time in front of a computer, and even hormonal changes.

One thing that is often overlooked in terms of migraine causes is your teeth. It's true - your teeth can cause pain that radiates all the way up and forms a migraine. If you have been trying to struggle with migraines, you may need to speak to your dentist!

How Your Teeth Can Cause Your Migraines

If you grind or clench your teeth while you sleep (referred to as bruxism), this can impact your jaw. This pain can radiate up and cause a migraine the second you open your eyes in the morning.

On top of doing damage to your teeth, bruxism can also cause headaches and tension in your body. Your dentist can fit you for a mouth guard that can help, but you need to call them and tell them what's going on.

Dental problems, like cavities or an infected tooth, can stream pain directly from your tooth into the nerves of your jaw. This can then refer the pain up to your brain, again, causing a migraine.

This is not only a painful problem, but it can also be a dangerous one. An infection from your tooth can lead to an abscess, which can also cause problems with an infection in other parts of your body.

If you are struggling with migraines, and even suspect that your teeth may be part of the problem, call your dentist. It is always better to have it checked and find out that there was no reason to worry, than it is to wait and get sick or suffer in pain.
