Vitamin D is important for good health, especially good dental health. Among so many other uses, including preventing and treating rickets, Vitamin D is important for maintaining healthy bones, including the ones in your teeth! People usually think that the best place to get Vitamin D is from the sun.
And it is tempting to think so, as the sun shines on our faces most days. This makes this idea tempting. The sun provides us with most of our Vitamin D, so why look anywhere else? Not looking anywhere else, including in your food, is just plain silly! Vitamin D AplentyVitamin D is certainly found in food, but the list is a bit small. This means that for some, it may take some work to incorporate more of it into their diets. You can find it in fatty fish, such as salmon and tuna, egg yolks, and most dairy products. It is also present in fortified breakfast cereals and tofu, a soy based food. Furthermore, shellfish such as shrimp is teeming with Vitamin D.You do not have to eat these foods for every meal. That might get tiring! Also, many foods that are rich in Vitamin D are also rich in cholesterol (eggs and dairy) or trace amounts of mercury (fish), an so they should not be eaten every day. However, incorporating some of these foods into your diet is easy. If you enjoy tuna salad, for example, why not have it a couple of days a week? If you eat a plant based diet, then tofu is the way to go. You can even turn your Vitamin D intake into a treat by having a milkshake once a week. However, in many cases, simply incorporating the foods mentioned above here and there should do the trick. The sun we are all exposed to daily supplies you with most of your Vitamin D.
