Dental bonding is a dental solution for permanently repairing minor imperfections. Pacific Ave Dental is well-versed in applying this technique to improve the long-term integrity of our clients’ smiles. It is important that you understand the procedure and make the associated cost-benefit analysis before undergoing treatment. Although one of the more minor treatments in the world of dental care, dental bonding is a permanent solution.
The Process of Dental BondingThe process for this simple dental solution is essentially that ceramic resin is brushed onto the tooth and hardened with intense light to form a permanent bond. A careful preparation routine is always in order, however, as this is a permanent procedure. Prior to bonding application, the tooth surface must be prepared to accept the treatment. This is accomplished by roughening the tooth surface and applying a gel to micro-etch the surface. A primer agent is then applied so the bond will adhere properly. Finally, we will select a shade of composite resin to most closely match your unique tooth coloration. This entire process can usually be completed in around 30 minutes per tooth.
What Can it Treat?Dental bonding can be used to treat a wide range of problems with dental health. This process can repair light tooth damage from decay or chipping. Bonding can improve minor imperfections in tooth alignment, although many cases of misalignment will require more invasive treatments such as braces. Gaps between teeth can be easily and inexpensively filled with dental bonding. Cosmetic reasons are often at play when we perform dental bonding, as this solution is often a great fix for minor discrepancies in appearance.
Is Dental Bonding Reliable and Cost Effective? This procedure is highly cost effective. It is the simplest and least expensive of all cosmetic dental procedures we offer. Unlike more invasive treatments like dental veneers, this procedure can almost always be performed immediately (in one sitting) in our office. It is extremely effective, yet looks natural. Additionally, it is usually a painless procedure that requires no anesthesia. For many of our clients, this is one of the biggest concerns with dentistry. We want to assure you that your comfort is of the utmost concern to us as well while undergoing treatment.
Still, there are several important things to keep in mind before treatment. Cosmetic dentistry bonding may require replacement due to wear and gradual discoloration over time. For this reason, some patients prefer more permanent solutions such as dental crowns, bridges, and porcelain veneers. As with any dental solution, dental bonding can develop imperfections down the road and require reapplication and/or adjustment. Proper dental hygiene, proper follow-up, and avoidance of risky behavior (chewing on hard food or non-food items) is the best course of action for ensuring the durability of this dental solution.
